Philadelphia moved to 56-47 following the win over Pittsburgh. The Phillies got a gem from Zach Wheeler to take Game one, and they’ll look to win a fourth straight here Saturday. Philadelphia currently sits in second place of the NL East, and they currently hold one of the NL Wild Card spots. The Philly offense is scoring 4.13 runs per Game, while batting .255, with a .320 on-base percentage. The pitching staff carries a 4.01 ERA, with a 1.23 WHIP. 

Aaron Nola (9-6, 4.25 ERA, 113 Ks) will take the mound for Philadelphia. The ninth-year pitcher composed himself well after a slow start in Cleveland last week, striking out seven through seven innings pitched, en route to a Phillies win. Nola is in the midst of another solid season in Philly, and he’s loved this Pittsburgh matchup over the years. Now, prior to his outing in Cleveland last week, Nola did allow four runs or more in seven of his last eight road spots, but he’ll look to get his post-All Star break form going here Saturday.

• Alex Bohm brings a five-Game hit streak into this Battle of PA, and he leads Philly in RBI (62), while hitting .282.

• Bryson Stott has doubled in two of the previous three Games, and he’s posting team-leads in batting (.302) and hits (115).

• Kyle Schwarber broke a ten-day home run-less stretch by going yard and providing both runs in Game one, and he’s among league leaders in homers (27), while leads the Phils with 64 RBI.

• Nick Castellanos has cooled off a bit to kick off the second portion of the season, but he’s still posting strong splits of .278/14/60.

• Trea Turner is hitless over his last three contests, while his former Nats teammate Bryce Harper has produced a run in three of his last five Games, and batting .291.

Pittsburgh comes in at 45-58 after losing to Philadelphia. The Pirates have now traded their last nine games, and they’ll at least look to keep that trend going through Saturday. Derek Shelton’s ballclub has plummeted all the way to fifth in the NL Central, after leading through the first month of action. This will mark their second game without Carlos Santana in the heart of the lineup. The Pittsburgh offense is scoring 4.11 runs per game, while batting .235, with a .320 on-base percentage. The pitching staff carries a 4.50 ERA, with a 1.38 WHIP. 

Quinn Priester (1-1, 9.28 ERA, 6 Ks) will get the call for Pittsburgh. The rookie pitcher received some help and picked up his first big league win in San Diego last week, allowing four runs through 5.1 innings pitched. Priester was the recipient of Carlos Santana’s last gem as a Pirate, and he will face another fearsome lineup here against Philly.

• Jack Suwinski now becomes the primary source of power in the Pittsburgh lineup with the departure of Santana, and he leads the club in home runs (21) and RBI (52).

• Bryan Reynolds has recorded a hit in five of the previous seven games, and he’s first on the team in hits (88), with solids of .256/11/47.

• Andrew McCutchen is hitless over his last two games, but he leads Pittsburgh in batting (.262), with ten homers and 28 RBI.

Philly did just enough to get out of PNC with a win last night, but game two might not be so hard on them. Pittsburgh will trot out an inexperienced Quinn Priester to face the beastly Phillies lineup, and he’ll likely end up allowing production once again, and the run support he saw last week in San Diego may not be there this time around. Injuries have decimated the Pirates season, and the Carlos Santana trade only made things worse, and tougher on the lineup. Philadelphia’s team total will be in play, and I like backing them to take a 2-0 series lead Saturday.
