Real Sociedad 1-2 PSG (1-4 agg): Player ratings as Mbappe double seals quarter-final spot

Image
Kylian Mbappe netted twice as Paris Saint-Germain breezed through to the Champions League quarter-final s at Real Sociedad's expense. The Parisians won 2-0 in the first leg and picked up a 2-1 victory this time around with a throughly impressive performance. Mbappe struck the Game into life with a glorious opener and extinguished any hope of a comeback with a composed finish early in the second half, with Mikel Merino's late effort little more than a consolation. How the game unfolded Bardley Barcola was denied from point-blank range ten minutes in after Mbappe breezed away from his defender and fizzed a cut-back across the box. Sociedad goalkeeper Alex Remiro didn't appear to know a whole lot about the save. Five minutes later, Mbappe went alone. Dancing his way around two defenders, the Frenchman crashed a glorious effort into the bottom corner, striking with so much force that it actually broke the net and led to a lengthy stoppage while the repairs were made. Paris Saint-Germain have one foot in the Champions League quarter-final as they travel to Real Sociedad in the last-16 second leg on Tuesday. The French side won the first tie 2-0 at Parc des Princes, goals from Kylian Mbappe and Bradley Barcola putting daylight between the sides ahead of the return fixture. However, PSG have failed to win their last two matches, including a goalless draw with Monaco on Friday, but they still boast a Health y lead at the top of the Ligue 1 table. Real Sociedad have their work cut out for them midweek, especially given they head into the match on a run of three straight defeats. The La Liga side lost 3-2 to Sevilla on Saturday, also missing the chance to reach the Copa del Rey final last week after losing to Mallorca on penalties in the final four. Here is 90min's preview of Real Sociedad vs PSG this week in the Champions League. What time does Real Sociedad vs PSG kick-off? How can Arsenal reach the UEFA Champions League final? Route to Wembley examined

Image
After seven years of absence from the UEFA Champions League, Arsenal returned to Europe's premier continental competition this season. The Gunners are aiming to win a first European trophy since the UEFA Cup Winners' Cup in 1994, but will have to overcome the likes of Manchester City, Real Madrid and Inter if they want to be crowned champions. With plenty of challenges on the horizon, how can the Gunners make it to the final at Wembley come the end of the season? Arsenal's 2023/24 UEFA Champions League group stage performance Arsenal made little fuss of qualification / Fran Santiago/GettyImages Arsenal may have spent a number of years away from the Champions League , but they took little time to rediscover their mojo. The Gunners eased to a 4-0 victory over PSV Eindhoven in their Group B opener and despite a 2-1 defeat to Lens in their second match of the competition, they recovered with victories home and away against Sevilla. Mikel Arteta's side then romped to an impr...

Man Utd 0-1 Bayern Munich: Player ratings as Red Devils limp out of Champions League in drab defeat

Image
Manchester United limped out of the Champions League on Tuesday evening in a woeful 1-0 defeat to Bayern Munich at Old Trafford. After a cagey and ultimately goalless first half in Manchester, Kingsley Coman's second-half strike was pretty much the only moment of quality in a drab encounter. Erik ten Hag's side needed a win to have any hope of survival but also relied on Copenhagen and Galatasaray sharing the spoils elsewhere, but victory for the Danish side meant there was nothing United could have done to survive. How the game unfolded In the knowledge that only a win would do, Man Utd certainly upped the intensity from their dismal 3-0 defeat to Bournemouth at the weekend. However, the hosts couldn't cause Bayern too many problems early on, the best they could muster in the opening half-hour being Luke Shaw's long-range effort that was comfortably dealt with by Manuel Neuer. The Bundesliga champions did give United some scares in the first-half, Leroy Sane's dar...

Union Berlin vs Real Madrid - Champions League: TV channel, team news, lineups and prediction

Real Madrid end their Champions League group stage campaign at Union Berlin having made light work of Group C. Carlo Ancelotti's side have won all five group games thus far and will sail into the knockout stages as group winners. The Italian boss has been forced to navigate an injury crisis, too, which makes their productive start to the season all the more impressive. However, they were usurped at the top of La Liga on Sunday night following Girona's stunning victory over Barcelona. Union Berlin's maiden Champions League campaign hasn't quite gone to plan. However, they have picked up two points from their last two group Game s and new manager Nenad Bjelica has certainly brought stability to the German capital. Victory on matchday six and they might sneak into the Europa League. Here's 90min's preview of Real Madrid's trip to Berlin on Tuesday night. What time does Union Berlin vs Real Madrid kick-off? Man City 3-2 RB Leipzig: Player ratings as Cityzens come from behind to seal top spot

Image
Manchester City completed a miraculous second-half comeback to beat RB Leipzig 3-2 and seal top spot in their Champions League group. Despite sending out a strong team, Pep Guardiola watched his side struggle horribly in the first half as Lois Openda put Leipzig two goals ahead, but City turned the Game on its head after the interval. Erling Haaland and Phil Foden struck to tie things up before substitute Alvarez tapped home a late winner to steer City through to the knockout stages as group winners. How the game unfolded Ambitious volleys from Bernardo Silva and Manuel Akanji got things started early on, while Leipzig starlet Xavi Simons sent a nice sight of goal frustratingly wide of Stefan Ortega's post. Some route-one stuff handed Leipzig the game's opening goal 13 minutes in. Lois Openda shrugged off attention from Akanji and collected a long ball from goalkeeper Janis Blaswich, before calmly slotting beyond Ortega. Ruben Dias headed agonisingly over as City sought an imm...
