Kevin De Bruyne returns from injury for Man City in FA Cup

Image
Kevin De Bruyne made his long-awaited return from injury during Manchester City's FA Cup clash with Huddersfield Town on Sunday afternoon. Belgium international De Bruyne, one of the best midfielders in the world, has been missing since the Cityzens' first Premier League Game of the season back in August when he suffered a hamstring injury in the first half of the 3-0 win at Burnley. The 32-year-old was named in the squad for the 2-0 victory over Sheffield United in City's last game of 2023 but finally re-entered the fray in the FA Cup third round tie with Huddersfield at the Etihad Stadium. De Bruyne came on with his side 3-0 up after goals from Phil Foden, Julian Alvarez and Oscar Bobb, though Foden soon grabbed a brace before Jeremy Doku - also returning from injury - struck City's fifth from a De Bruyne assist. The former Wolfsburg star's return is a major boost as City look to ditch the malaise that plagued them during the first half of the 2023/24 season. ...

Jurgen Klopp reveals initial timeline for Dominik Szoboszlai injury

Image
Jurgen Klopp has confirmed Liverpool midfielder Dominik Szoboszlai suffered a hamstring injury against Newcastle on New Year's Day and will miss the club's next two games at least. The Hungarian ace was taken off in the second half of the Reds' eventual 4-2 win at Anfield, which reinforced their place at the top of the Premier League table. "I can confirm it's not a potential injury - it is an injury. Muscle, hamstring. But now we have to see," Klopp told reporters at his latest press conference. "Dom is very positive, doesn't have a lot of pain but we have to wait a little bit. So, no chance obviously for Sunday, not for Wednesday. No. "And then we will see, after that hopefully he might be back but we don't know." The Game s Klopp was referring to are Liverpool's FA Cup third round clash with Arsenal on Sunday and the first leg of the Carabao Cup semi-final against Fulham - their last fixture before a mini break affords Szoboszlai...

Rodri injury: Progress & potential return for Man City midfielder

Image
Rodri was carrying a slight limp as he gingerly made his way on stage to collect his latest individual accolade. The midfielder who had already been voted the best player in last season's Champions League and Nations League was awarded the Golden Ball for the 2023 Club World Cup. To cap Manchester City's treble-winning year, Pep Guardiola's side thrashed Copa Libertadores champions Fluminense 4-0 in the global showpiece. Rodri was forced off in the second half of the final in Saudi Arabia, although victory was all but a formality by that point - if not long before. As several beaten Fluminense players bitterly highlighted after the contest, some City players had sauntered through the closing stages with an air of arrogance. While Jack Grealish was accused of taunting 'oles' - which he denied - Rodri watched the final 15 minutes wincing from the bench. Here's the latest fitness updates on a player whose absence is always keenly felt. When will Rodri return from i...

Mauricio Pochettino handed major tactical issue with Chelsea's latest injury blow

Image
Chelsea head coach Mauricio Pochettino will have to think outside the box to plug a gaping hole at right-back and left-back as the Blues prepare to face Brighton & Hove Albion on Sunday. Malo Gusto is still not ready to return to action from an injury that forced him to pull out of France's Under-21 squad last month. The young defender had been back in training before Premier League Football resumed, only to be absent from the matchday squad for the defeat by Newcastle United. Chelsea's latest injury update on Gusto is that he continues "undergoing his rehabilitation programme", making his involvement this weekend highly unlikely. That exacerbates a wider problem for Chelsea as Gusto has usually been the one to fill in for Reece James this season. The captain had been out of action for a couple of months earlier in the campaign and is now fully fit, but he is suspended for Sunday due to a red card last time out. Reece James was sent off against Newcastle / Stu ...

Erik ten Hag gives Lisandro Martinez injury update

Erik ten Hag says Manchester United 'have to wait' to discover the severity of the injury suffered by Lisandro Martinez. The Argentina international started alongside Victor Lindelof in central defence for United against Arsenal on Sunday but came off in the 67th minute with a suspected foot problem. Lindelof was brought off late on, leaving Harry Maguire partnering Jonny Evans before late strikes from Declan Rice and Gabriel Jesus stole a 3-1 win for the Gunners at the Emirates. Key centre-back Raphael Varane is recovering from an injury picked up in the 3-2 win over Nottingham Forest but fears of a lack of depth were realised during the defeat in north London. Giving updates on Lindelof and Martinez post-match, Ten Hag said: "Victor was ill, so he had to come off. Licha had a problem on his foot, but I am not sure if it's an injury . "We have to wait, to see, to make the diagnosis." Martinez was later seen leaving the Emirates without a protective boot or...
