Jordan: No way Ricciardo can do what Perez is doing at Red Bull

Image
Eddie Jordan feels there is "no way" that Daniel Ricciardo could better Sergio Perez in posing more of a challenge to Max Verstappen . The opening five races of the 2023 F1 season have been dominated by Red Bull, with Verstappen and Perez claiming three and two wins respectively to give the team a 122-point lead over Aston Martin in the Constructors' Championship. Verstappen sits at the top of the Drivers' standings with a 14-point advantage over Perez and, in the years ahead, David Coulthard expects several of Verstappen's contemporaries to attempt to challenge him at the front. However, the former F1 driver finds it hard to imagine that anybody can take the fight to Verstappen in the same team. Coulthard on 'machine' Verstappen "I think we have a generation of drivers in their mid-20s that, for the next decade, are going to be trying to fight it out," Coulthard explained on the Formula For Success podcast. "Bas...

Ricciardo reveals element of Red Bull return he's 'curious' about

Image
Daniel Ricciardo admits he is "curious" to see how he fares on the Red Bull simulator as he returns to the team four years after his exit. The Australian will take the position of reserve driver at the Milton Keynes-based squad in 2023, having been left without a seat on the grid following his departure from McLaren. Despite struggling during the past two years, Ricciardo previously experienced success whilst at Red Bull and earned seven of his eight race wins with the outfit before he left at the end of 2018. He was also able to get within a tenth of a second of Max Verstappen in qualifying. As such, Ricciardo would be keen to see how he compares to his past form via the simulator. Leclerc explains how he edged Sainz in 2022

Image
Having finished ahead of Ferrari teammate Carlos Sainz in the 2022 Drivers' Championship, Charles Leclerc attributed his improvement to a change in off-track approach. Sainz joined Ferrari at the start of 2021, and outscored Leclerc in that year's championship by 164 points to 159.5. However, Leclerc turned the tables in 2022, scoring 308 points to Sainz's 246 and winning three races to his teammate's one, and the Monegasque said a few pre-season Lifestyle changes had helped him attack the season with renewed vigour. "I changed a few things. The way I work, how I discipline myself at home. That was a bit of a freestyle last year," Leclerc told Auto Motor und Sport . "Whenever I was at home, I was doing many different things. "To be honest, I was very tired in 2021 from mid-season to the end. That influenced me and affected my performance. "It's also possible that this car suits me better. We had a great winter test, and we ...

Hulkenberg: Germany has been 'spoilt' with F1 success

Nico Hulkenberg feels that Germany has been " spoilt " by its representation in Formula 1 as he prepares to be its sole racer on the grid in 2023. Following the retirement of Sebastian Vettel and Mick Schumacher losing his seat at Haas, Germany was faced with the prospect of not having a driver on the grid for the first time since 1981. However, 2020 Formula 2 champion Schumacher was replaced by compatriot Hulkenberg, meaning the run continues - with Vettel himself in a similar position during that '20 season. Speaking after making his testing debut with Haas, Hulkenberg revealed he isn't bothered by the fact and that his homeland has been too indulged with Formula 1 success in recent years.
