World AIDS Day (December 1st)

Image
Quick facts When is it? Every December 1st Tagged as Life & Living People & Relationships What's the hashtag? #WorldAIDSDay Have we missed something? When the AIDS epidemic broke, because I happened to be a Science nerd and knew a lot about viruses and a lot about that virus at the time, I felt a moral obligation to go out and try to stem the fear and get out and explain to people what the disease was and how it worked. Morgan Fairchild Acquired Immune Deficiency Syndrome, when discovered in the 1980s, seemed to reach out into the world and change the way humans previously thought about almost everything, from how they got their vaccinations or blood transfusions to the way they chose their sexual practices. The revelation of this disease and the virus behind it (Human Immunodeficiency Virus) was met with a campaign of fear and superstition that had the power to harm both those who had it, and even further out into the families and friends of those who...

“Madrid won’t let me talk about it” -Rodrygo on incident with Messi

Brazilian Rodrygo Goes scored the first goal in Real Madrid’s 4-2 win over Naples and was asked some questions after the Game , one of which had nothing to do with the Game . Instead, he was asked about an incident that occurred between him and Lionel Messi when Brazil played Argentina in a World Cup Qualifier. They shared a tense moment when Rodrygo grabbed the back of Messi’s neck and the two exchanged some nasty words. When asked about hit, Rodrygo did not give any further details and simply said he can’t talk about it. When asked why not, he directed his response to a Real Madrid employee in the room and said, “Madrid won’ t let me, right?”, which made everyone in the room laugh. Rodrygo also made sure to “reassure everyone” that he’s okay after asking for a substitution in the 87th minute. “ It was just a cramp. In the second half, it was a bit hard for me,” he said. “I had a little cramp but I’m fine now.” Source: https://thefoxposts.com/madrid-won-t-let-me-talk-about-it-r...

Matt Miazga suspension extended after MLS investigation

Matt Miazga has been hit with a three-game ban and undisclosed fine for misconduct after FC Cincinnati’s playoff victory over New York Red BUlls. The 28-year-old was recently named MLS Defender of the Year and he was a key part of Cincinnati’s historic Supporters Shield-winning season. But now, with his team just two games away from MLS Cup glory, Miazga is unable to feature for Pat Noonan’s team. Arsenal 6-0 Lens: Player ratings as Gunners cruise into Champions League last 16

Image
Arsenal are into the Champions League knockout stages for the first time since 2017, booking their place in the last 16 and top of Group B with a game to spare after a thumping win over Lens. The Gunners were rampant from the earliest stages, taking a 13th minute lead through Kai Havertz from close range. Gabriel Jesus soon doubled that advantage, before further goals from Bukayo Saka and Gabriel Martinelli had the home side 4-0 up and fully cruising inside half an hour. Martin Odegaard made it five before half-time with a well-timed volley, with Jorginho scoring a late penalty as Arsenal took full revenge for a surprise defeat in the reverse fixture on matchday two. How the game unfolded The Gunners had a couple of sightings of goal before they took the lead, including Havertz just missing the target from a header. It was only moments later that he did find the net to get the ball rolling, managing to touch Gabriel Jesus' nod across goal beyond Brice Samba. Provider turned goalsc...

Théo Zidane named in Real Madrid’s Champions League squad for Napoli: what kind of player is he?

Real Madrid’s injury crisis has to be seen to be believed, with Luka Modric, Eduardo Camavinga, Aurélien Tchouaméni and Vinícius Júnior among eight first-team player s ruled out of Wednesday’s Champions League home Game against Napoli. Their absences have, however, opened the door for a new face, but one that has a more than familiar name - Zidane . Real Madrid - Napoli: Follow the live action here! Zinedine , the “original” Zidane, is, of course, a club legend following his time at the Bernabéu as both player and manager. On the field, he played over 230 Game s and scored 49 goals, with his iconic UCL final goal against Bayer Leverkusen giving Los Blancos their ninth European title. In the dugout, he had even greater success, leading the LaLiga giants to two league titles and their 11th, 12th and 13th Champions League triumphs. NBA Player Props Today - Best Ausar Thompson Props | Pickswise

After much debate, the In-Season Tournament is a great thing for basketball. Last night was a treat for NBA fans. Let’s move onto tonight, where we have a 7- Game slate, and dive into our top NBA player prop bets for the Game s on Wednesday, November 29. Be sure to also read our NBA predictions for each of tonight’s matchups. Ausar Thompson (DET) under 22.5 pts/rebs/asts (-103) Line available at BetRivers at time of publishing. There has been a dip in usage and production for Ausar Thompson with the return of Jaden Ivey in the Pistons’ starting lineup. Ivey has started the last 5 Game s for Detroit, and ironically enough, Thompson has stayed under this PRA line in all 4 Game s. Besides the previous Game , where Thompson attempted 14 shots, he’s seen less than 10 field-goal attempts in 5 of his last 10 Game s. It’s tough to produce when you’re not getting your number called. The rebounding was the story for Thompson to start the season. Throu...

Heat’s Jaime Jáquez Jr. speaks to his closeness with Jimmy Butler

Many have been comparing Miami Heat rookie Jaime Jáquez Jr. to Jimmy Butler as he’s been impressing in the early parts of the NBA season. As the Heat prepare to take on the Milwaukee Bucks in the final group play Game of the NBA In-Season Tournament, Jáquez spoke to ClutchPoints, telling them how often he talks to Butler and how much he’s actually learned from him. “I talk to Jimmy especially when he’s not playing. We talk all the time when I’m on the bench, and he’s telling me what he sees and telling me what I can do bette r,” Jáquez said. “Even in practice today, he’s talking to me about the little details on how I can improve my Game . So it’s been a great help having such great veterans around, being able to voice their knowledge. So I’m just trying to take and run with it.” Source: https://thefoxposts.com/heat-s-jaime-jaquez-jr-speaks-to-his-closeness-with-jimmy-butler-TheFOXposts-42367.html?utm_source=blogger_source&utm_medium=blogger_medium&utm_campaign=blogger_c...

Man City 3-2 RB Leipzig: Player ratings as Cityzens come from behind to seal top spot

Image
Manchester City completed a miraculous second-half comeback to beat RB Leipzig 3-2 and seal top spot in their Champions League group. Despite sending out a strong team, Pep Guardiola watched his side struggle horribly in the first half as Lois Openda put Leipzig two goals ahead, but City turned the Game on its head after the interval. Erling Haaland and Phil Foden struck to tie things up before substitute Alvarez tapped home a late winner to steer City through to the knockout stages as group winners. How the game unfolded Ambitious volleys from Bernardo Silva and Manuel Akanji got things started early on, while Leipzig starlet Xavi Simons sent a nice sight of goal frustratingly wide of Stefan Ortega's post. Some route-one stuff handed Leipzig the game's opening goal 13 minutes in. Lois Openda shrugged off attention from Akanji and collected a long ball from goalkeeper Janis Blaswich, before calmly slotting beyond Ortega. Ruben Dias headed agonisingly over as City sought an imm...

What tie-breaker is used if teams finish level on points in the UEFA Champions League group stage?

The group stage of the 2023-24 UEFA Champions League is nearing its conclusion , with some teams, including Real Madrid, Manchester City and Bayern Munich, having sealed their places in the round of 16 on matchday four, while several others have the opportunity to do so on matchday five. Groups D and G already have nothing riding on them in terms of qualification , although we still need to see whether Real Sociedad or Inter tops the former and which of City and RB Leipzig finish first in the latter. Was Daeodon the Most Fearsome Mammal Ever to Walk the eагtһ?

Image
One of my favorite foѕѕіɩѕ comes from the great Miocene trove at Agate Fossil Beds National Monument near Harrison, Nebraska.   Daeodon,  commonly nicknamed  “ һeɩɩ ріɡ ,”  was one of the fіeгсeѕt and most interesting mammals of this ancient environment around 19 million years ago. Fossil Focus: Daeodon These huge omnivores looked like giant boars, although they were not actually related to modern ріɡѕ.   Daeodon  was one of the largest mammals in its eга, about the size of a modern bison, with a huge һeаd and very large teeth capable of crushing and tearing.  Daeodon  lived in the open grasslands of western North America, and foѕѕіɩѕ, while гагe, have been found from Oregon to Nebraska.  Named for the Greek “dгeаdfᴜɩ tooth,”  Daeodon  indeed had a fгіɡһteпіпɡ mouthful, with a mix of teeth, including large canine tusks, for eаtіпɡ a wide variety of foods.  Its diet probably included live ргeу, carrion, plants, and tubers.  It is likely that  Daeodon  was an apex ргedаtoг, but si...

Ancient Giants: Hunting the Enigmatic Giant Tatu for Survival by the First Americans

If you love to know about prehistoric Animals , then you’ve probably heard about giant armadillos. These creatures roamed the eагtһ millions of years ago, and they were a ⱱіtаɩ part of the ecosystem. Today, they’re extіпсt, but they’ve left behind a rich ɩeɡасу of how they were used by indigenous cultures in the prehistoric times. In recent years, scientists have discovered many surprising wауѕ that the natives used the giant armadillo to survive, which may even led to their extіпсtіoп. 3D rendering of Glyptodons (giant armadillo) that lived in South and Central America from approximately 5.3 million to 11,700 years ago, which means that early humans coexisted with these large creatures. © AdobeStock Giant armadillos in Paleontology Glyptodonts, like this fossil at the Minnesota Science Museum, have shells that are fused together in a rigid dome. Tottenham ascend from crisis but back into reality

Image
FROM TOTTENHAM HOTSPUR STADIUM - After a third Premier League defeat on the bounce, it would be easy to claim that Tottenham's season is quickly fading away. And, well, if you bought into the tongue-in-cheek hype that they were ready to challenge for the title, you'd be right (even if you were wrong to assume that in the first place, pal). But there was a strange sense of optimism that emerged from their latest loss, falling 2-1 to Aston Villa on home soil. Without five of Ange Postecoglou's regular starters, Tottenham created enough chances to win the Game two or three times over and showed the cohesion of a lineup that had played 50 Game s together. On his first start for Tottenham in nearly two years, Giovani Lo Celso opened the scoring with a slightly deflected half-volley after a manic opening period. Pau Torres equalised in first-half stoppage time before Ollie Watkins clinched victory for Aston Villa midway through the second 45. From start to finish, Spurs found d...
